Where we work

Expanding our scalable model

Common for all countries we operate in is the engagement of men and women who have already received training as Community Health Workers (CHWs). They are introduced to a cost recoverable business model that gives them access to our delivery network and allows them to improve health in their community, while at the same time generating an income. This creates a sustainable incentive to work with basic health care, which is at the core of our operations. All products, training and content is approved by The Ministry of Health in the host country (based on national guidelines).

Uganda

Uganda is the hub of our operations, hosting the Healthy Entrepreneurs HQ in Africa with over 120 colleagues. Over 12.000 CHEs currently operate in most Ugandan districts. Our portfolio includes health care training, nutrition, malaria and diaorreah prevention, e-health and telemedicine services as well as facilitation of community investment groups.

Kenya

Overall, the network of CHEs in Kenya has grown to 2,000 CHEs in total. A pilot test with satellite stocks that ensure better access to products, has greatly sped up delivery and improved the income of the CHEs. HE Kenya has also invested in digital aids, with an e-Dispensing solution currently at the prototype stage.

Burundi

The operations in Burundi are about to reach the goal of 1000 active Community Health Entrepreneurs, servicing around 200.000 people in their respective communities. The CHEs are trained with added focus in the fields of SRHR, HIV, nutrition and ICCM.

Democratic Republic of Congo

Our operations in focuses on the North- and South Kivu districts, bordering to Uganda in the east. HE DRC works as part of a consortium for the TUMA+ project (Tuhimizane kwa Mabadiliko = Awareness for Change) lead by Care Netherland and together with four other organizations.

Tanzania

HE works in the Geita region of Tanzania, where around 100 CHEs are active. The recruiting, training and equipping of new CHEs has mainly been in the ranks of community health workers and ADDO owners and dispensers, and the training covers maternal and child health, nutrition, WASH, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases and entrepreneurial skills.
